Our Family Department's New Years Resolution
Lupton Fawcett Denison Till has strengthened its profile of specialist solicitors in the Family Department following two high profile appointments to the Resolution’s Regional Committee of West & North Yorkshire.
Director Chris Burns has been appointed as the Regional Committee’s Press Officer for North Yorkshire Resolution and Associate Solicitor Matthew Miles has been appointed to the West & North Yorkshire Resolution Committee.
Resolution, which was formerly known as the Solicitors Family Law Association (SFLA), is an organisation of 6,500 family lawyers and other professionals in England and Wales, who encourage a constructive, non-confrontational approach to family law matters. Resolution also campaigns for improvements to the family justice system.
Resolution supports the development of family lawyers through national and regional training programmes, publications and good practice guides and its accreditation scheme. Resolution also trains and accredits mediators and is the only body providing training and support for collaborative lawyers in England and Wales.
Chris Burns has been appointed as Press Officer for North Yorkshire as part of his ongoing role on the Resolution Committee for West & North Yorkshire. He was elected into this role at the AGM in November which follows on from his election to the Regional Committee in 2013.
The new role will invite him to comment on significant developments in relation to family law issues.
Chris comments “The increasing use of social media, both within the legal profession and in other professions and businesses, is an important tool for any family law practitioner. My appointment as Press officer for North Yorkshire will provide me with an important platform from which to share and comment upon news items and matters which have an impact on Resolution members, the wider legal community and the general public who have an interest in the fast changing world of family law.”
Matthew Miles has also been elected to the Resolution Committee for West & North Yorkshire at the AGM in November 2015. This appointment follows Matthew’s successful term as Chairman of the Young Resolution Committee.
During his role as Chair for Young Resolution, Matthew led a successful programme of academic seminars, training programmes and networking events involving members of the judiciary and prominent barristers in the Yorkshire region. Matthew was also part of a working party for Central Resolution, helping to establish the new ‘YRes’ brand to promote and raise the profile of Young Resolution on a national level.
Matthew hopes the new appointment will allow him to build on his experience with Resolution and contribution to its ethos and future success in family law disputes.
Matthew comments “I am delighted to be elected as a committee member for West and North Yorkshire. The region is the most prominent legal sector outside of London and has always been at the forefront for ground breaking cases and changes to family law. I hope to play an active role in the forthcoming programme of events by bringing some fresh ideas from my time as Chair of YRes. A key role of Resolution is to foster close connections amongst the legal community to promote an approach to family law disputes that is constructive, cost-effective and most likely to facilitate an agreement. This is something which I fully support and promote for the benefit of my clients”.
The appointment of two members of the Lupton Fawcett’s family team is testament to the high esteem in which they, and the wider team, are held.
