New streamlined service for VISA applications
The UK Visas and Immigration Department is implementing its new online system which it promises to be ‘streamlined, digitised and accessible’. The system will allow individuals to submit all the necessary evidence and personal information to support their application quickly and securely, providing a more streamlined process.
The new system itself is said to be for those seeking to remain in the country via Tier 1, Tier 2,Tier 4 and Tier 5 routes. It will not be available for people who are joining a family member as a dependent or for those applying for British Citizenship until January next year.
One of the key changes is that whilst processing the application, the applicant will be asked to self-upload their supporting evidence. At the same time, and unlike the previous system, the applicant will not need to post their passport and can keep this whilst they are waiting for a decision.
After the application has been submitted and payment has been made, the applicant will be able to use a new booking system to arrange a physical appointment at one of 57 ‘core’ centres and service points throughout the UK. At that appointment their biometrics will be obtained and their identity checked.
This all sounds interesting, so when is the new system being launched?
The launch of the system is to be staggered over the new few weeks. From 2 November 2018, the new booking system will go live. From 5 November the new core centres will start opening throughout the country, with the old style Premium Service Centres closing. Up to 29 November, applicants may choose to access the existing system or the new route. In January next year, the specialist service and support centres will open for applicants who need more help with their applications.
At the same time as the new system going live, there will be options for applicants to purchase chargeable extras such as the guaranteed next day appointment, the use of a Premium Lounge whilst waiting to be seen or even on-demand mobile services.
