Gender Pay Gap - Implementation Delayed
The Government Equalities Office (GEO) has confirmed that the publication of the final Equality Act 2010 (Gender Pay Gap Information) Regulations 2016 has been delayed. You will recall that the regulations will impose obligations on companies to analyse their pay figures and publish an annual report on the gender pay gap. The report must be published on each company’s website along with being uploaded to a government site.
It was expected that the regulations would come into force on 01 October 2016. However the GEO has confirmed that this is no longer the case. A response to the consultation is still awaited and the final regulations are not expected to be included in this response.
The final regulations are expected to be put before Parliament this autumn. The regulations are expected to take effect from April 2017. This means that the first ‘relevant date’ under the regulations will remain as 30 April 2017, requiring companies with 250 or more employees (as defined in the regulations) to make their first report on gender pay gap by the end of April 2018.
The exact extent of the reporting obligations will remain unknown until the final draft regulations are published.
